Adam Schefter's Night net Draft proposal is a terrible idea and fans hate it

Night net American Football ESPN's Adam Schefter is a great reporter, but his proposal for the Night net Draft is a terrible idea.Just look at it. so @AdamSchefter dropped one on us: If the Night net is going forward with the draft.. how about making it a 7 night event? One round per night. pic.twitter.com/oaVWgQpBPi— trey wingo (@wingoz) March 25, 2020MORE: Which XFL players have signed in the Night net?For more context, here's what Schefter said on "Get Up" about his proposal. "How about having one round of the draft on every night," Schefter said. "So we have seven nights, seven rounds. Basically it's the Hanukkah of Night net Drafts. And there's no rush to get through anything. It gives teams on the clock more time. It's not like coaches have to have players in minicamps next week. They don't. There are no minicamps. There's no offseason program. There's no other sporting event on the calendar. Have the draft occur one round per night for one straight week."How about no.The current setup is perfect. Casual fans can tune in to the first round in its entirety with plenty of names most fans will recognize from college football. Then it moves into Day 2 with Rounds 2-3 as we cover more ground with still-relevant draft picks. Then we move into Day 3 for Rounds 4-7 for the truly diehard football fans. This setup is so perfect that it set new ratings records last season. There's only so much interesting content to watch on Day 3. Relevant draft picks will be announced on Twitter, or in stories you can read after the draft. Players aren't walking up on stage at this point. Night net commissioner Roger Goodell isn't announcing the picks. Day 3 is mostly filled with guys you've never heard of. Sometimes even the networks covering the draft haven't heard of the players.MORE: 2020 Night net Draft big board of top 100 playersThis problem only gets exacerbated when you break the individual rounds up for television viewing. Do you really want to spend your Tuesday night watching the sixth round of the Night net Draft? I get that there are no other sports on at the moment, but there's got to be something on Netflix that's more compelling than watching draft picks. While I've been negative so far, I will say there are a few benefits to this idea. As Schefter noted, there's no reason not to do it. With everything being shut down, there's not really a glaring downside aside from the fact it'd be boring to watch. ESPN's Ed Werder also had a fair point about the proposal regarding extra time for general managers.Genius level adjustment. More entertainment and distraction for America. More time for GMs to make decisions about prospects they know less about than normal. https://t.co/xcdmWtqfRc— Ed Werder (@WerderEdESPN) March 25, 2020Still, Schefter's idea was mostly m

Round 1 makes sense, even 2 and 3 have at least an argument to be separate. But who wants highlights and deep commentary and highlights on why a team picked up a special teams safety with 7 tackles last year? Nobody wants that. https://t.co/2YO2X2o3T0— Kent Lee Platte (@MathBomb) March 25, 2020One pick each night. https://t.co/efdeDf32C2— Frank Caliendo (@FrankCaliendo) March 25, 2020Brutal.By 2030, Goodell will be stretching the draft out to a pick a day. https://t.co/AdNke7sCBK— Tyler Dunne (@TyDunne) March 25, 2020a whole night of the third round? forget about the seventh...just think about the third. you want that? https://t.co/g08LcScoqQ— bomani (@bomani_jones) March 25, 2020Just keep the draft the way it is.
