Red Sox officially introduce Yoan Moncada

  • Baseball Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington introduced the team's newly acquired switch-hitting second baseman from Cuba, Yoan Moncada, as "one of the few most talented 19-year-olds in the world" at a Friday news conference ."He's got a really unique combination of skills — great athlete, speed, switch hitter with power from both sides of the plate, defensive skills," Cherington said. "He's an athlete with the ability to play multiple positions if he had to, but he's a natural second baseman." Although the Red Sox did not disclose the details of the contract, Yahoo! Sports reported that Moncada will recieve a record $31.5 million signing bonus, shattering the previous record of $8.27 million for an international amateur. He will immediately begin training with the team.     trade rumors: Orioles making Ubaldo Jimenez available

  • The O夜网论坛rioles appear ready to move on from Ubaldo Jimenez after just one season.According to .com's Tracy Ringolsby, the AL East champs have discussed trades involving the right-hander. It's not clear which teams would be interested in acquiring Jimenez. Baltimore signed Jimenez, 30, to a four-year, $50 million contract last February but received little in return: a 4.81 ERA and a 1.516 WHIP in 125 1/3 innings. Jimenez was the odd man out of the O's rotation by September.If teams really are interested in Jimenez, then they're still picturing the Ubaldo who was a stud for the Rockies, or the Ubaldo who was serviceable for the Indians in 2013, instead of the bad 2014 Ubaldo or the worse 2012 Ubaldo.
